Dr. Jon Perenack brings an artist's eye and over ten years of experience in hair restoration to each and every consultation with his patients. He understands that hair restoration is a private procedure, and he and his entire staff is committed to providing you with an outstanding experience worth telling your friends and family about – but you don’t have to! Downtime is minimal, and results are remarkably predictable, yet appear gradually over about one year, so no one needs to know you had anything done. Dr. Perenack is a Board diplomate of two surgical specialties, his impressive credentials include numerous articles and chapters in books and journals, as well as being a nationally recognized lecturer in the field of hair restoration surgery and facial cosmetic surgery. As an artist, Dr. Perenack has displayed oil paintings in both the U.S. and Canada. The human face and figure have always been his greatest interest.
Dr. Perenack's practice in Baton Rouge is almost solely devoted to hair restoration and facial cosmetic surgery. He has received board certification from both the American Board of Cosmetic Surgery in Facial Cosmetic Surgery and American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. Dr. Perenack completed fellowship training at the prestigious Facial Plastic and Cosmetic Surgery Center in Texas in 2003. Previously, he completed a six year residency in Oral and Maxillofacial in New Orleans at LSU Health Sciences Center. He completed medical school at LSU - New Orleans with honors as a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society. Following his deep love of cosmetic surgery, and his interest in sharing his knowledge with other surgeons, Dr. Perenack served as faculty member of the LSU Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery for over 10 years. He was Director of Residency Training from 2005 to the summer of 2014. Dr. Perenack is uniquely qualified in facial cosmetic areas including but not limited to hair transplant surgery, rhinoplasty, facelifts, necklifts, eyelid lifts, browlifts, facial implants, lip augmentation and fat transfers.
Dr. Perenack is an internationally recognized speaker in the area of hair restoration and facial cosmetic surgery, having spoken at numerous conferences in the U.S., South America and Canada. For over ten years he has chaired the LSU Advanced Practical Facial Cosmetic Surgery Workshop in New Orleans. Additionally he has chaired the ACOMS Hands-On Facial Cosmetic Surgery Course for the past 3 years. He has hosted numerous physicians from around the US in his office for onsite training courses. He is the current chairman of the AAOMS subcommittee on Facial Cosmetic Surgery and currently serves on the AAOMS Council on Residency Education, and is the immediate past president for the American College of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. He is currently an Associate Clinical Professor at the LSU Health Sciences Center.
Hair transplantation can be quite simple. We know that the hair on the back and sides the scalp tends to be permanent in most individuals even in advanced stages of hair loss. This is due to the fact that these follicles are not affected by the hormone dihydrotestosterone (DHT). This resistance to DHT is a genetic characteristic and remains with the follicle even if transplanted from one part of the scalp (or body) to another. Therefore, permanent hair transplanted to a bald area will continue to grow at its new location.
It is important to understand that during the hair transplant we are not creating new hair. We are simply redistributing hairs from a donor site to cover areas of thining hair. The result is a natural evenly placed hairline and the look of more hair.
A careful assessment by the surgeon is paramount to the success of this procedure. There are factors that determine the number of grafts needed to achieve optimal results. Typical procedures result in 2000-2500 transplanted grafts.
Up to 95% of men with thinning hair can blame it on hormones and genetics It usually follows a pattern of receding hairline and hair thinning on the crown, and is caused by hormones and genetic predisposition. Each strand of hair you have sits in a follicle. Generally, baldness occurs when the hair follicle shrinks over time, resulting in shorter and finer hair. Eventually, the follicle does not grow new hair. The follicles remain alive, which suggests that it is still possible to grow new hair. This is when topical agents and low level light therapy can help revive these weakened follicles.
The reason for female pattern baldness is not well understood, but may be related to:
• Aging
• Changes in the levels of androgens (male hormones). For example, after reaching menopause, many women find that the hair on their head is thinner, while the hair on their face is coarser.
• Family history of male or female pattern baldness.

The location of the donor site is planned by the surgeon. A numbing agent is used to make the donor dissection painless. Many patients opt to have minor sedation to ensure a relaxed experience. Once the follicular graft is obtained, the donor site is closed with tiny clips. These are removed in 7 days. The donor graft is passed under microscopes to divide into smaller follicular units. This ensures graft vitality. Once the follicular units are obtained the next process begins, slivering. Slivering is when the experienced hair technician trims the graft down to 1, 2, 3 or 4 follicles per graft. This is determined by the surgeon. Single hair grafts are usually placed along the hair line and then as the hairs increase in density the 2, 3 and 4 follicle grafts can be used. This gives the most fullness. Slivering and placing is done simultaneously to ensure a seamless transplant procedure. Once all the grafts are placed, PRP can be injected into the scalp to add the benefit of natural growth factors to transplanted grafts. Once complete the patient is sent home with specific instructions which entail graft hydration with a simple water spritzer. It is recommended to obstain from exercise or other exertional activities for 10-14 days.
The first hair cut can take place approximately 4 weeks after surgery. Many patients will notice the grafts are gone. This is expected. The follicles are there in the scalp but the hairs will fall out. Over the next 6-8 weeks the new hairs will grow from these transplanted follicles. Final result can take 6 - 12 months. Some patients opt to have an additional transplant if more fullness is desired.

I have seen Dr. Perenack on multiple occasions. Each experience was nothing short of amazing. His honesty and Eye for perfecting the tiny insecurities we have is astounding. I recently had a surgery with Dr. Perenack in which I opted to only use local anesthesia, at first I was nervous, but he did a wonderful job at calming me down and getting me through it. I had a rhinoplasty and lower eyelid surgery done by Dr Perenack and I couldn't be happier. Dr Perenack is the best of the best and I was confident to let him work on my face. My nose always bothered me and I hated the way it looked in photos, but now I don't have to worry about that at all and love my profile! Went in to get my buccal fat pads removed. I’ve always been very self-conscious about my cheeks (no matter my weight, I’ve always had chipmunk cheeks).
First off, the staff at his office was extremely accommodating and was a pleasure to work with.
Dr. Perenack came in for my consultation and told me the process he was going to use during my procedure. He went through my recovery with me and answered any question I had. His bedside manner was EXCELLENT. I went in for my follow up visit and everything looked great. I was only in pain for maybe a few hours until I got it under control. All other parts of the experience have been easy. I would recommend Dr. Perenack to anyone for any cosmetic procedure!

I have had several procedures with Dr. Perenack over the years. Laser Resurfacing for skin tightening and smoothing, fillers to strengthen my jawline and a hair transplant to re-establish my front hairline are some of my favorites. His evaluations are thorough and he is able to provide many before and after photos of his work. I always receive compliments regarding my skin and, thanks to Dr. Perenack’s skills, no one has guessed that I have had anything done or even my actual age.
